Sergeant Dan Regan began his career with the Covina Police Department in 1990 as a Jailer. He became a police officer in October 1992, and after finishing his academy training as the top academic recruit in his class, he was assigned to the patrol division. In 1995 his hard work in patrol landed him a position in the Detective Bureau as part of the Special Enforcement Team. In 1996 he returned to patrol as a K-9 handler and worked successfully with his K-9 partner Freddy for approximately six years until the K-9 unit was disbanded. He became a Field Training Officer in patrol, and then returned to the Detective Bureau where he served as a Burglary Detective for one year, and from 2006 through 2011 he worked as the Crimes Against Persons Detective, handling cases such as batteries, missing persons, domestic violence, robberies and homicides.
Sergeant Regan has a Bachelors Degree in Criminal Justice from California State University Long Beach. He was honored as the Covina Police Department Officer of the year in 2005, and in 2009 he was named the California State Investigator of the Year. He has been a member of the Covina Police Department’s Special Response Team (SWAT Team), since its inception in 2001. Sergeant Regan also serves as the department’s lead range instructor.
