Lieutenant John Curley is a 17 year veteran of the Covina Police Department. Prior to joining the Covina Police Department, Lieutenant Curley served as a Police Reserve Officer for 3 years with the Monterey Park Police Department. Lieutenant Curley has worked in a variety of assignments which included: DARE Officer, Narcotics and Robbery/Homicide Detective positions. He also served as a sergeant in the Professional Standards, Patrol, and Detective Bureau.
Lieutenant Curley has received The Distinguished Service Medal and was also The Police Officer of the Year in 2000.
Lieutenant Curley holds a Bachelors Degree in Human Resource Management from Cal Poly Pomona. He also holds his Masters Degree in Leadership and Management from The University of La Verne. He completed The Leadership 21 Program from The University of Southern California and is a graduate of The Sherman Block Supervisory Leadership Institute. Lieutenant Curley also participated in Rotary International’s Group Study Exchange where he traveled throughout Japan learning about law enforcement in that country.
Lieutenant Curley is responsible for Records, Communications, Jail Operations, Grant Applications, and Training. He also serves as the Emergency Coordinator for the city.
