|Captain Derek Webster|
Captain Derek Webster was hired by the Covina Police Department in 1988 after working as a police officer for the San Gabriel Police Department for two years. Captain Webster attended the Rio Hondo Police Academy and spent his first years as an officer assigned to Patrol. After spending a few years in Patrol he developed an interest in traffic enforcement. Captain Webster transferred to the Traffic Division where he was assigned as a motorcycle officer and became an expert in traffic collision investigations.
Captain Webster was a Field Training Officer for two years before promoting to the rank of sergeant in 1997. As a Patrol Sergeant, his primary responsibilities were to supervise, train and mentor officers assigned to the division. After spending a few years in Patrol he was transferred to the Detective Division where he supervised detectives, support personnel, in addition to the Crime Prevention Bureau. In 2001, Captain Webster promoted to the rank of lieutenant and went back to Patrol where he served as a Watch Commander. He spent several years in Patrol before being transferred to Administration to be in charge of Disaster Preparedness, Grant Procurement and special projects. He promoted to the rank of captain in 2007 where he was in charge of all department operations. In 2011, the Covina Police Department added a second captain position and a division of organizational responsibilities occurred. Captain Webster is currently in charge of Administrative Services.
Captain Webster is a graduate of the FBI National Academy session 257. He earned a Bachelor's of Science degree in Criminal Justice from Chapman University and a Masters of Arts degree in Emergency Services Management from California State University-Long Beach. He is a graduate of the P.O.S.T Executive Development course, Police Management course and Sherman Block Supervisory Leadership Institute.
